Scoring a California Coast Sandbar with Kyle Knox 01-12-2022

Surfers’ dreams came true on January 12, 2022, as a secluded sandbar along California’s coastline roared to life. A perfect swell angle created mind-blowing, dredging barrels that left experienced surfers awestruck. California’s coast witnesses swells from various storm angles, each dependent on the season. During the winter, when swells peak, it’s not unusual for waves to break in rarely surfed areas. This day, however, was truly exceptional.

The star of the show was an elusive sandbar that had surfers watching and waiting eagerly. Even local San Diego surfer, Kyle Knox, embarked on a journey up the coast to seize this unique opportunity. With wave faces ranging from 4 to 6 feet, the waves were incredibly hollow due to an extremely shallow sandbar. This wave isn’t for the faint-hearted; it’s reserved for those skilled enough to handle late air drops and occasionally dive right into the barrel. It was a day to remember for the experienced and advanced surfers who reveled in this exceptional ride.
