Was a gorgeous morning at Tourmaline Beach and we got some sick nose riding angles when Preston McQuillen and I back in 2015 decide to film a nose riding longboard sesh from land and test using GoPro on a selfie stick. Props to Preston who was trying paddle, press record, take off, and aim the selfie stick all at once.
Tourmaline Surfing Video
Tourmaline Beach is a surfer’s paradise, with some of the best waves in the area. It’s no wonder that surfers flock to this spot to catch some waves and show off their skills. Recently, I had the opportunity to witness a fantastic longboard session by surfer Preston McQuillen, who truly stole the show with his incredible nose riding.
As I filmed from the land with my camera, I could see Preston effortlessly glide along the waves, hanging five and hanging ten on his longboard. It was truly a sight to behold, and I couldn’t help but feel envious of his surfing skills. However, what impressed me the most was the fact that we were able to capture all of this on film using a GoPro on a selfie stick.
This new technique allowed us to capture close-up footage of Preston’s nose riding, something that would have been impossible with a traditional camera. And while it wasn’t easy for Preston to manage, with the need to paddle, press record, take off, and aim the selfie stick all at once, he still managed to pull it off with ease.
Props to Preston for his impressive skills both on and off the board. It’s surfers like him who inspire us to push the boundaries and try new things, even if it means taking on a new and challenging technique.
In conclusion, Tourmaline Beach remains a top spot for surfing enthusiasts, with some of the best waves and a beautiful setting that can only be found in San Diego. And with new technology like GoPro and selfie sticks, surfers can now capture their skills in ways that were once impossible, allowing us all to experience the thrill and beauty of surfing in a whole new way.
