There were some summer time south swell and we went out to shoot at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas with Chris Blabac. While out in the water there was a massive pod of dolphins that came through the lineup super close.
Surfing is a sport that connects us with nature in a very unique way. It’s not just about riding waves, but also about experiencing the environment around us. This was particularly true on June 13th, 2018, when we had the chance to shoot at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas with local surfer Chris Blabac.
The day started with a typical summer swell, the type that attracts surfers from all over Southern California. The sun was shining, and the water was warm, which is why we decided to head out to the beach to capture some footage. However, we weren’t the only ones interested in the waves that day.

At first, we thought they would swim by us and continue on their way, but to our surprise, they came straight towards us. The dolphins were swimming gracefully and effortlessly, jumping out of the water, and spinning in the air. They were so close that we could see the details of their sleek bodies and hear their clicks and whistles. It was like they were putting on a show just for us.
As a surfer, I’ve had many memorable moments in the water, but this was one of the most extraordinary experiences I’ve ever had. It was humbling to be in the presence of these magnificent creatures and reminded me of the importance of respecting and preserving our oceans and marine life.
