Some of the wipeouts we saw were a result of a surfer taking off too late on a massive wave. The surfer was held underwater for what seemed like an eternity before finally resurfacing, coughing and spluttering.
One of the most brutal wipeouts we saw during this swell occurred when a surfer attempted to pull into a massive barrel. As he entered the barrel, he lost his footing and was thrown off his board. The force of the wave then propelled him headfirst into the sandbar, causing a sickening crunch as he collided with the sand. The surfer was immediately attended to by other surfers in the water and fortunately escaped serious injury.
Despite the dangers of surfing in such extreme conditions, these surfers showed incredible courage and skill in tackling these massive waves. These wipeouts and beat downs serve as a reminder of the power and unpredictability of the ocean and the importance of respecting its raw power.
