Many surfers around the world are not familiar with something called “The Luau” which is held every year at Scripps Pier, La Jolla. What is The Luau & Legends of Surfing Invitational all about? Why is it so important? Luau founders, John Otterson and Sam Armstrong, discuss the Luau & Legends of Surfing Invitational, Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health is able to deliver innovations that change the lives of individuals living with cancer by providing compassionate clinical care, inspired education and leading-edge research.
Cancer survivor, Matt Fontanesi, discusses his personal experience fighting cancer. He talks about the amazing care provided to him by the doctors and staff at the Moores Cancer Center. Since 1994, the San Diego community has helped to raise more than $11 million to fight cancer through the event. The Luau is considered one of the largest surfing charity events in the world. It is on par with other events such as Surfer Magazine’s Watermans Ball.
